Here’s What Novak Djokovic Said After Serbia Reached Davis Cup Quarterfinals

On Saturday, Team Serbia made their way through to the quarterfinals of Davis Cup as Nenad Zimonjic and Viktor Troicki gave an unassailable lead of 3-0 to Serbia after winning their doubles match 6-3, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (5), 6-4 against Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov and Konstantin Kravchuk.

Speaking in a post-match press conference, Djokovic said: “I believe that Davis Cup weeks gives us a great boost and an extra dose of confidence and motivation for our individual tournaments and career. There are many occasions during my career when an extra boost of confidence from Davis Cup have helped me achieve excellent results in individual tournaments. I hope that the positives from this week will help me for the rest of the season.”

Djokovic thanked the Nis crowd for their great support:

“My strongest impression that I felt from Nis is the people and their great hospitality. They were all very pleasant, friendly, we felt at home. I had the opportunity to walk beside Nisava and to see kayakers practice. Also, I visited the fortress, so these are the memories that I will always remember.”

Russian journalists asked why at one time during the doubles match he and Medvedev were not present in the hall.

“We were playing cards,” – Nole answered jokingly.

And, why did the Russians lost, was a question of visiting journalists.

Because we won” – continued Djokovic in the same style.

Novak then praised the Russian team.

“They all are really talented. They all are young players, who are expected to make a major breakthrough in tennis world. And although they seem very young to me, they were not at all burdened by the circumstances that awaited for them in Nis,” said Djokovic

The Serbian journalists asked in which tournament will they see Djokovic next. To which he replied:

“I don’t know if I will play on Sunday or not. I have to see my team and then we will decide. My tournament schedule after the Davis Cup remains same. I will not play in Dubai and will directly go to Indian Wells.”
